A girl told deputies that a man tried to rape her outside of her home, but Orange County Sheriff's deputies said the report was false early Wednesday morning.
Deputies were looking for a man they thought may have attacked the 9-year-old outside the Forest Edge Apartment on Forest City Road near Edgewater Drive on Wednesday, until they learned the report was untrue.
The girl told deputies that she and another child were playing outside when the man jumped over a nearby fence and came at her. Investigators said the girl told them she was dragged before the man tried to rape her.
Neighbors found the girl after hearing her screams, deputies said.In a news release, deputies said the child was not attacked and was not a victim of sexual battery.
"The child made up the story," OSCO Capt. Angelo Nieves said in the release.No other information was immediately available.
