Fargo woman pleads guilty to making false statements in sexual assault case

A 26-year-old Fargo woman faces up to eight years in federal prison after pleading guilty to making false statements in a sexual assault investigation, U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon announced today in a news release.

Ashley St. Claire pleaded guilty to the charge on Friday. As part of a plea agreement, she admitted to lying about who was present and what happened in a vehicle in the Belcourt area on Feb. 28, 2010, the release stated.

Sentencing is set for 10 a.m. Feb. 27 in U.S. District Court in Minot.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Bureau of Indian Affairs’ Turtle Mountain Agency. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandi Sasse Russell is prosecuting the case.
