Girl charged with making false report after reporting rape

A 17-year-old Blanchester girl who reported she had been raped has been charged with being a delinquent child after she allegedly made a false complaint, according to Blanchester Police Chief Scott Reinbolt. On Dec. 10, 2010, the unidentified girl reported she had been raped by a 38-year-old male house guest who was living with her and her parents.

"A lengthy investigation was undertaken, the suspect was located and interviewed in another Ohio county, but at the conclusion of the investigation there was insufficient evidence to prove the allegation,” Reinbolt said. “No charges were filed against the alleged rapist."

However, during the course of the investigation police learned that the house guest was a multiple time convicted felon. “Based upon that fact and other information discovered during the investigation, the girl’s mother was charged with contributing to the delinquency or unruliness of a minor,” Reinbolt said.

In August, information was discovered indicating that the victim fabricated the reported rape. “Therefore, on Nov. 7, 2011, Blanchester police filed a complaint alleging the girl to be a delinquent child by reason of committing the crime of making false alarms, a first degree misdemeanor if committed by an adult,” Reinbolt said.

The girl is now 18 years of age.

Making false alarms prohibits reporting a crime to police while knowing that the crime did not occur, according to Reinbolt.
